The Greater Phoenix Orienteering Club is a group dedicated to the sport of orienteering. Orienteering is an event in which competitors use map and compass skills to navigate over terrain as quickly as possible in order to find a series of pre-placed "control" markers. We are a group of families who like to hike with all age groups. We tend to feature short but fun hikes that all ages can enjoy. I have found that my kids enjoy and have more energy for hikes that have some mildly rugged terrain with rocks to climb, and that hiking with other families makes for good fun. The Homeschoolers' Picnic Lunch Club is for kids ages 8 and up. This is an opportunity for some of the older kids to meet and make friends. We'll get together once a week for a picnic lunch at Veterans Oasis Park. After lunch the kids can enjoy the park. There is a nice big lake that the kids can walk, scooter or ride bikes around. There's a waterfall and plenty of hiking paths. This is simply a social lunch in a beautiful, natural setting.
