New and pending members PLEASE READ!
Thank you for your interest in the Triangle Hiking and Outdoors Group (THOG). We are "un"officially on the the largest hiking and outdoors group in the Triangle area! We are a VOLUNTEER group and there are no membership fees and dues. Of course, some activities (ie overnight trips, outfitter run trips) have fees but these are passed on AT COST with no "profit" to us. We certainly will accept any donations (running this website does cost $$$) but we are OK if you just want to participate! After all, we are doing this because we are outdoor NUTS and are passionate about sharing this with the community. If you need a tax deduction, please donate to the Sierra Club ( http://www.ncsierra.o... ), or Triangle Land Conservancy ( http://www.tlc-nc.org... ) on THOG's behalf!
To join THOG, simply fill out a profile. Here are a few tips for filling out your profile:
1) Do not include any personal information (ie phone number or e-mail addresses) Our pages are not private, thus, your profile information will be visible to everyone including programs designed to capture e-mail addresses for spammers. You can always receive e-mail via the meetup message system if you choose to activate it.
2) You do not need to list your last name. It is helpful if you use a last initial so we can tell the difference between Rob S and Rob T. If you wish to change your "name" click on account (on the right upper corner) and you can edit your name at any time.
We kindly REQUEST that you fill out each profile question completely. If you have an incomplete profile (ie unanswered questions or one word answers), your request may be banished to the sands of Timbuktu by THOG powers. After all, if you aren't willing to spend the time and put some thought into completing a 2 minute profile, you are probably a MINO (member in name only aka not an active member) Pictures help other members know who you are, but are NOT REQUIRED. We frown on using aliases (ie anything but your real name) because it makes it REALLY difficult to find you at an event.
OK, now that you are a member of THOG, what now? Well, events are posted on the event board. If you want to attend, RSVP "yes." If you are unable to attend or do not wish to attend, simply do nothing! You do not need to RSVP "no" unless you want to leave a comment to the organizer. Our events fill up FAST... therefore if you RSVP "yes" and cannot attend, PLEASE change your RSVP to "no" ASAP. If you want to attend a FULL event, simply e-mail the event leader. WE FREQUENTLY CAN ACCOMMODATE WAIT LISTS!
This sounds great... but I have suggestions/feedback... what do I do? If you have a constructive feedback, feel free to write the organizer at any time! If you just want to complain for no reason, we will teleport your complaints to mars. Until we get our weather machine to work (which is not anytime soon) we CANNOT control the weather! Rain is an integral part of our climate. Without it, you wouldn't get all those leafy green things to grow all around you. It does get COLD here too. After all, we are in central NC, not southern FL. In the summer, trips start EARLY so we aren't experiencing the NC natural sauna. Trip limits are done to ensure that everyone has a good outdoor experience (and not just for us, but for the other visitors too). If after reading this, you still want to complain, we will be glad to sell you a page on our website for $1 million dollars.
Finally, we are NOT a singles group. If you are joining us to help enhance your dating life, we will redirect you to http://singles.meetup.... We are activities based and you will find activities such as hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking, biking, dancing, skiing, etc. You won't find dinners, social mixers, etc. Well, that's about it! The secret code is "coyote buttes." If you ever mention that then we will know that you have read this whole thing!
Ready to get started? CLICK HERE TO JOIN!
See you on the trail
Sincerely
THOG
