Details

Join Triangle Hiking and Outdoors for a evening hike at Lake Johnson in Raleigh on Avent Ferry Road. Lake Johnson Park is composed of a 150+ acre lake and 300+ acres of land surrounding the lake.

We will be hiking the unpaved portion of the East Loop trail and then joining up with the paved portion of the trail. This trail is ~2.82 miles. The pace will be moderate and should take an hour. The unpaved portion is rugged with loose rocks, exposed tree roots & stream crossings.

Please wear sturdy shoes. Well behaved, leased dogs that can tolerate unpaved trails are welcome.

NOTE: DUE TO PARKING ISSUES AT LAKE JOHNSTON PARK, WE WILL MEET AT ATHENS HIGH SCHOOL/LIBRARY PARKING LOT. This will add ~ .8 mile to the hike.

Directions to meeting location:
Take exit #295 (Gorman St.) off of interstate 40 and the 440 beltline. From Gorman St., head north (toward NC State). At the intersection of Gorman St. and Avent Ferry Rd, take a left onto Avent Ferry Rd. Go approximately 1/2 mile, straight through the stoplight at Athens Drive, and turn right into second entrance to parking lot of Athens High School and library.
