This hiking group for the Carlsbad/North County area started in October of '08. We will have early morning group walks every Thursday morning (aka "Three Mile Thursdays") and longer treks on Saturdays.
The Thursday walks stay around the Carlsbad/Oceanside/San Marcos area with occassional forays as far as Del Mar or Escondido. On Saturdays we'll get a little more adventuresome with 5-7 mile walks further afield. We'll mix hiking with some coastal and city walks for variety. The emphasis is on seeing interesting new things and places, whether places of historical interest or of natural beauty. We'll be carpooling from the Carslbad area or you can meet us at the trailhead.

It's December, time to check out some holiday decorations. Let's go visit Oceanside's mission. After the 3 mile walk, those who care to can view the mission church and cemetery.
This route will begin at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside, walk some residential streets, passing a quaint old cemetery and historical park with old West style buildings, and then go out along the bike trail on the river. Read more
