Hello All Hikers,

Next Saturday, May 10th is our hike from Umstead to Lake Crabtree County Park. Total mileage is 14 with one shorter option of approx. 9 miles. Meet at far left corner of Harrison Ave. parking lot (Reedy Creek section of Umstead State Park) at 8:00AM. We will start on the Company Mill Trail, and turn left onto the loop after crossing the big bridge over Crabtree Creek. When the trail leaves the creek, going up the hill, we will stay alongside the creek and work our way thru the mountain biking trails until reaching Rt. 40 and the Lake Crabtree dam. Then we will do most of the mountain biking trials in Lake Crabtree, eat lunch on the multi-tier deck and then back to Umstead. There are modern restrooms and water at the deck, so you can replenish your water supply there.

Bring lunch and water. Some of this hike is off-trail and ticks are out so insect repellant is recommended. Allow up to 5 1/2 hours for the full hike. Should be back to parking lot by 1:45PM. If any questions and meeting locations, times, email Rod Broadbelt rodhike@intrex.net or call before 7:00PM 919-363-6611

"As always, Rod's hike was great. The weather was beautiful and the blooming mountain laurel and honeysuckle made the route even more enjoyable. Eating lunch on Lake Crabtree in the sun was really special too."
