DESCRIPTION:Hiking Meetups > Let's hike and maybe take a break if we get ti
 red\n\nWelcome to the third leg our First Ever Historic Skyline-to-the-Sea 
 (S2S) series.\n\nThe third leg is Big Basin SP to Rancho Del Oso - Waddell 
 Beach.  The full leg is 10 miles (possibly 12) with 1200 ft of elevation.  
 *Note: The full hike does not end at the starting trailhead.*   Additionall
 y\, this is a difficult hike\; however we'd be delighted to have YOU join u
 s as a driver (see below) if the full hike is not for you this year.  Pleas
 e check out the Hot Food thread if you haven't yet seen how you can help ou
 t with victuals.\n\nFor this leg: everyone will assemble at Big Basin SP HQ
 .  The hiker hikers will walk the S2S trail.  The driver hikers will do wha
 tever they want and meet us at Waddel Beach in about 2-3 hours.  Still thin
 king about awesome places to go eat afterwards.  The driver hikers can help
  us with that as well.\n\nFor all of the S2S hikes (both practice and actua
 l) we'll have both hikers and drivers.  The hikers will be doing the full l
 eg of the hike.  The drivers will also be hiking\, but their main responsib
 ility will be to drop folks off at the "start" trailhead\, drive to the "fi
 nish" trailhead\, and do an out-and-back hike from the finish point.  The t
 urnaround point for the "driver hikers" will be the point that they meet th
 e "hiker hikers".  I gotta think of some better names for folks\, but there
  it is for right now.\n\nIf you've heard me talk about this\, you know it's
  gonna be great.  We're so excited to have you join us\, either as a hiker\
 , as a driver\, or as someone who's going to join us for lunch and celebrat
 ions.\n\nPlease be sure to include whether you will be a *hiker hiker* or a
  *driver hiker* in your RSVP.  More details to follow.  Looking forward to 
 seeing YOU out on the trail soon.\n\nDIRECTIONS: \nThere are quite a few ro
 utes that lead to Big Basin from the bay area. You can make the trip long a
 nd scenic or longer and more scenic. Check a road map to pick the routes su
 itable from your location. The following are somewhat generic directions. F
 rom CA 35 (Skyline Boulevard) in Santa Cruz County\, turn west onto CA 9 at
  Saratoga Gap. Drive west about 6 miles and turn right onto CA 236. Drive a
 bout 8 miles to the park headquarters\, and park in the lot across the stre
 et from the ranger station/park headquarters. (Note: if you or your fellow 
 passengers are prone to car sickness\, the southern leg of 236 is less barf
 y. Instead of turning onto CA 236 6 miles west of Saratoga Gap\, continue o
 n CA 9 another 7 miles to Boulder Creek\, and take a right onto CA 236 ther
