Details

Placeholder for the second leg of our First Ever Skyline-to-the-Sea (S2S) series

The second leg is Waterman Gap to Big Basin SP. The full leg is 9.5 miles with 1300 ft of elevation. *Note: The full hike does not end at the starting trailhead.* Additionally, this is a difficult hike; however we'd be delighted to have YOU join us as a driver (see below) if the full hike is not for you this year.

For this leg: everyone will assemble at Big Basin SP. Our beloved driver hikers will ferry the hiker hikers up to Waterman Gap, then drive back down to Big Basin. The hiker hikers will walk the S2S trail. The driver hikers will do whatever they want and meet us back at Big Basin in about 2-3 hours. Still thinking about awesome places to go eat afterwards. The driver hikers can help us with that as well.

For all of the S2S hikes (both practice and actual) we'll have both hikers and drivers. The hikers will be doing the full leg of the hike. The drivers will also be hiking, but their main responsibility will be to drop folks off at the "start" trailhead, drive to the "finish" trailhead, and do an out-and-back hike from the finish point. The turnaround point for the "driver hikers" will be the point that they meet the "hiker hikers". I gotta think of some better names for folks, but there it is for right now.

If you've heard me talk about this, you know it's gonna be great. We're so excited to have you join us, either as a hiker, as a driver, or as someone who's going to join us for lunch and celebrations.

Please be sure to include whether you will be a *hiker hiker* or a *driver hiker* in your RSVP. More details to follow. Looking forward to seeing YOU out on the trail soon.

I will drop off bagels & cream cheese breakfast for the campers on my way down to Big Basin. Any requests? I mean aside from capers and smoked salmon.

hmm. Don't they have a book on grilling over your engine. Like put the veggies on some aluminum foil over your carburettor and drive at 65 mph for 100 miles?

veggies sliced thick and marinated in italian dressing (or lemon juice, garlic, herbs, and olive oil) always taste good on the grill. i'm more curious about the grilling facilities? are there any? do we need to bring a few?

OK. The chuckwagon brigade needs recommendations on hot food. I mean we could always grill Cliff Bars, but surely there are some good recommendations. BTW. Sheila may be in Day 25 of her vegetarian status, so she might particularly appreciate creative grill ideas
