SUMMARY:Marin Headlands/Rodeo Beach (4.3 mi\, 850 ft) Marin County
DESCRIPTION:Hiking Meetups > Let's hike and maybe take a break if we get ti
 red\n\nHIKE STATS:\nStart Time: 10am\nDistance: 4.3 mi loop\nEstimated Hike
  Time: 2-3 hrs\nElevation change: 850 feet\nEvent Type: Open\nDifficulty: M
oderate (for elevation)\nEvent Organizer: Maura\n\n* The Marin weather patt
erns are changeable. Be sure to bring an extra layer or two. \n* Remember t
 o bring snacks and water ... \n* No pets please\n\nHIKE DESCRIPTION:\nIt's
a continuous uphill hike (until the downhill portion\, of course). A porti
on of the trail is single file only and you'll be walking on some loose roc
ks/gravel/sand. If you have significant knee problems\, this might not be
a good hike for you. There's no shade on this hike so it's advisable to b
ring a hat and sunscreen.\n\nThis hike is open to all members without restr
iction. This does not mean it is an easy hike: it means that no special per
missions are required from the event organizer (Maura) in order to join. Th
is is a moderate hike. Please read the description to be sure that it is th
e right level for you.\n\nPlease be aware that we expect you to take respon
sibility for your safety while we are out on the trails. This means arrivin
g prepared\, remaining aware and participating with the other really wonder
ful folks who are part of the group on hike day. We understand that your "Y
es" RSVP to this event means you accept this.\n\nIf the hike is full\, plea
se RSVP "No" and add a comment asking to be added to the wait list. Our fol
ks are really\, really good about keeping their RSVP status current and the
wait list works REALLY well. Please remember that it is NOT OKAY to come t
o this hike unless you have a "Yes" RSVP for yourself and any guests you'd
like to bring.\n\nHere is a link to more great Bay Area Hiker info about th
e hike. We are really looking forward to seeing YOU there.\n\nCARPOOLS:\nFe
wer cars at the trailhead is always happiness. Meetup does not organize car
pools\; however we are a friendly group with lots of folks who are interest
ed in sharing rides. If you'd like to offer a ride\, please leave a comment
in your RSVP letting folks know where you're coming from and how many spac
es there are. If you'd like to ride as a passenger\, it is YOUR JOB to chec
k the website RSVP list and contact any of the nice people offering a ride
to see if they still have a space for you. If you're a passenger and your p
lans change\, please be sure to let the driver know.\n\nDIRECTIONS:\nFrom n
orthbound US 101 in San Francisco County\, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and
exit at Alexander (the first exit past the view point turnoff). After abou
t 0.3 mile\, turn left onto Bunker Road. There is a one-way tunnel which cu
ts under 101\, and you may need to wait up to 5 minutes for your turn to tr
avel through it (this is a great opportunity to put on sunscreen). From the
other side of the tunnel\, drive about 3 miles on Bunker Drive to the trai
lhead at the end of the road.\n\nFrom southbound US 101 in Marin County\, e
xit Sausalito (the last exit before the bridge). Drive uphill on Conzelman
Road\, then turn right onto McCullough Road. Descend on McCullough to a jun
ction with Bunker Road\, and turn left. Drive west on Bunker to the trailhe
ad at the end of the road.\n\nTRAILHEAD DETAILS:\nPlenty of parking in lots
and on the side of the road. No entrance or parking fees. Wheelchair-acces
sible restrooms at edge of parking lot. There are handicapped-designated pa
rking spots\, but the trails are not wheelchair accessible. No maps availab
le at trailhead. If you want to pick up a map before you start hiking\, sto
p at the Visitor Center on the way to the trailhead: from the Headlands sid
e of the tunnel on Bunker Drive\, drive about 2 miles and bear left onto Fi
eld (just before you get to the lagoon). Make the first right into the Visi
tor Center parking lot. Muni bus line #76 services this trailhead via Bunke
r Road (Sundays and major holidays only): visit the Transit Info website fo
r details.\n\nMEETING SPOT: The very last parking lot at the end of Mitchel
l road\, near the restrooms (see the uploaded map in the Files section).\n\
nPOST-HIKE REFRESHMENT LOCATION:\nAlthough it's not an official part of the
hike\, a big friendly group of us often mange to make our way to a fine lo
cal establishment for post-hike refreshments and cheer. All recommendations
are considered\; however CHEAP\, plentiful food is goodness. There is no p
re-planning involved so spots that can roll with a big group arriving are u
sually a good fit. We always like to make sure everyone can have something
to eat\, so variety is also nice.\n\n** Today's Winner **\nHow about Tracey
