Details

I have decided to try out the Wilson Creek area. The campground that we will be going to is Mortimer Campground. Here is a link to where we will be staying

Wilson Creek

This campsite is located within the Grandfather Mountain Ranger District. There are plenty of hiking trails with waterfalls in the area, so don't forget your cameras. The campsite has 23 sites and cost $10/night. There are showers (not sure if it has warm water though) and toilets. One of the hikes I was thinking about doing is just down the parkway at MP 308 and is suppose to have an really neat waterfall. The hiking is moderate with difficulty but does have some creek crossings that may require wading (there are plenty of hikes in the area though, so if people do not want to do this then there are plenty of options). This will be dog and kid friendly. I am planning on taking a half day on Friday to try to be at the campsite and set up by 6 or 7. Saturday we can spend the day hiking and socializing. Sunday Morning we can head home. We will be organizing who brings what and can have a big cookout Saturday night. I will be bringing my dog, this is going to be car camping.

I hope to have a good turn-out with this.... The weather is perfect for camping and this is some of the most beautiful country that NC has to offer!!

Hope to see ya out there! biggrin

I have been to this area several times over the past few years and I highly recommend it! The gorge is beautiful and there are many great hiking trials that offer beautiful falls and vistas. If you like to fish, now is the time! This river is stocked with trout by the hatchery. If you like to tube or kayak, the upper Wilson creek area near Mortimer offers level I & II for easy kayaking. Don't pass this one up! I'm going! See you all there.
