Sorry about the changeup but I now have to work on Saturday so, my hiking/climbing partner, Ted is going to lead you guys to the summit. I so wish I were going to be there! I post another 14er before the winter arrives.
PLEASE READ THESE DETAILS AS THEY HAVE CHANGED A LOT!
August Fourteener to Mount Harvard. We will meet Friday evening at the C-470 & Morrison Exit across from the gas station (near Bandimere), stop along the way for dinner and then camp at the North Cottonwood Creek trailhead Friday night.
Saturday morning with an early rise at 4:30am meeting at the TH at 5:30am to get a summit before possible weather. There is water along the trail to pump if you don't want to carry a lot. Plan to head home after returning to the TH, but be flexible as this is a long one and we may all be tired and want to stay the night. That means have extra food for dinner Saturday night. Great breakfast in Buena Vista at Bongo Billy's.
Distance: 12.6 miles round
Difficulty: Class 2
Elevation Gain: 4,550'
Trail: South Slopes ll
Gear needed: Sleeping bag, tent, stove, sleeping pad, water pump/tablets, headlamp, bug repellent, 10 essentials, food, raingear, sturdy boots, clothing, beer (optional), etc. Ted has all of these items and willing to share some if you are short an item or two.
As usual there are requirements:
* You must have hiked with me at least 1 time prior to event, NO EXCEPTIONS!!
* You will need the gear to do an overnighter.
* If you die, we split your gear, so please have experience! hehe, just kidding.
* Remember to bring cash for the driver if you carpool, most SUV's take $45 to fill the tank and it takes me a tank to get there and back. You do the math.
Have fun with this one! I have done it and it's long but beautiful... the distance can make you mountain silly on the way down. :)
