Shoot an email because extras will likely be available. Expected is around
six miles of hiking daily\, give or take depending on the route chosen.
Great weather usually is to be expected. Moderate hikes preferred. Mea

SUMMARY:Memorial Day Walk and Picnic
DESCRIPTION:Hiking Meetups > Tri-State Hiking Club\n\nUPDATE!!! Several peo
ple have requested we have a potluck picnic. Please note there are no forma
l picnic facilities at CNC but John C says there is plenty of room for a pi
cnic. Please bring a blanket or chair to sit on and a dish to share. I may
be able to get a small foldup table for the food. If anyone else has one th
ey can bring as well\, that would be spectacular. I will bring napkins\, pl
ates and silver so all you need to bring is a dish to share and drink. I al
so have a gas camping stove and cheapo charcoal grill if we want to make ho
t dogs and such. If you are interested in having a grill\, please email me
and we can decide what to bring ie hot dogs\, buns\, fixins\, hamburgers.
\n\nIf you are interested in a carpool\, please review the message board.
There is a discussion where you can list your area and a good meeting place
. This would also be a place to list if you can bring a table or want to gr
ill out to get some feedback on what to bring along. \n\n\n\nMondays at the
Cincinnati Nature Center are free!! What better reason could you have for
going except perhaps the beautiful miles of nature trails they offer as wel
l? If you have the day off and want to spend it with friends\, join us for
a nice\, easy to moderate hike of 4-5 miles through the center. Bring your
camera for some beautiful shots. Leashed dogs are welcome here. \n\nWestsid
e Carpool/Caravan-meet at the Mt. Airy Dog Park on Western Northern Blvd by
10am. If anyone wants to create a carpool in another area of the city\, pl
ease post it on the area where you can discuss the meeting with location an

SUMMARY:Steps of Cincinnati-Clifton-moderate late afternoon evening walk-6
 miles
DESCRIPTION:Hiking Meetups > Tri-State Hiking Club\n\nClifton is one of Cin
cy's most diverse neighborhoods. It's a place where Prius owners and Hummer
owners live in relative peace and harmony. It's residents come from all s
ocial classes and cultures and Cliftonites pride themselves on that fact.
 They have Catholic\, Protestant\, Unitarian\, Jewish\, Hindu\, Pagan\, and
Islamic services within a few blocks of each other and often congregations
join together for services and community projects. Built for the wealthy of
early Cincinnati\, Clifton boasts some beautiful homes\, churches and land
scaping unknown in other communites. It offers some of the most diverse sho
pping and dining experiences in Cincinnati and prides itself on its alterna
tive offerings. (Few chain stores do well in this community) The Esquire Th
eater is the city's premier Indy Film spot where you can see films in any l
anguage or on any topic you can imagine. Burnet Woods\, originally built to
house the Cincinnati Zoo offers wonderful trails\, a nature center\, live
concerts\, a fishing pond\, and of course the infamous WPA slide that I ado
red as a child. Mt. Storm offers wonderful views and a gorgeous Gazebo for
relaxation. \n\nPlease join us for the easy to moderate walk. The terrain i
s mostly flat to rolling. Burnet Woods offers several steps and trails for
a more strenuous walk. This walk will be longer than most lasting approx 6
miles. I just couldn't cut anything out as it was all so wonderful!! Howeve
r\, the terrain is much less challenging than some of the others so I don't
think it will be incredibly difficult. I had very little difficulty walki
ng it. ( A little huffing and puffing on the stairs)\n\nThis walk will not
include the University area as that will be in a future jaunt. However\, t
he parks and gaslight residences are a delight to see all on their own.\n\n
We can have dinner after at Deweys Pizza\, Habaneros\, or another location.

SUMMARY:Fort Ancient Summer Solstice Hike
DESCRIPTION:Hiking Meetups > Tri-State Hiking Club\n\nUPDATE: Sorry I was s
o excited about the Solstice\, I forgot to change the time to noon when the
park opens. We will meet at 11am for the carpool and be at the park entran
ce at noon. If anyone wants to visit the museum\, your admission would be $
 8 person. Since I wasn't interested in the tour\, I opted for the $7 a carl
oad offer. \n\n\n\nFort Ancient features 18\,000 feet of earthen walls buil
t 2\,000 years ago by American Indians who used the shoulder blades of deer
\, split elk antler\, clam shell hoes and digging sticks to dig the dirt. T
hey then carried the soil in baskets holding 35 to 40 pounds. Portions of t
hese walls were used in conjunction with the sun and moon to provide a cale
ndar system for these peoples. \n\nThe site offers beautiful vistas along h
iking trails as well as the remains of the prehistoric mounds for visitors
to see. Convenient picnic areas can be found along the road at the site. \n
\nThis site offers 3.5 miles of trails and connects to the Loveland Bike tr
ail for an additional 60 miles so we can walk as long as we want to walk. \
n\nIt costs $7 per car so we should meet and carpool to save expenses. \nFo

SUMMARY:Hike Clifty Falls State Park - Sat 6/28
DESCRIPTION:Hiking Meetups > Tri-State Hiking Club\n\nWOW! That is all I ca
n say. We visited this park in April and it was GREAT! Nice rugged terrain
(felt like I was hiking out west) beautiful scenery\, multiple waterfalls (
probably all dry now due to the lack of rain)\, a cave to explore\, river c
rossings. I really was impressed. We will target 6+ miles\, but because of
the terrain this will be at least a 4 hour hike. There will be lots of hill
work going in and out of the canyon. Since the riverbed will probably be d
ry we will hike up it\, so wear very sturdy shoes/boots - we will be going
over lots of rocks. And of course\, bring lots of water (at least 48 ounces
). \n\nCamping: We will also be camping\, RSVP at: http://hiking.meetup.com
/201/calendar/7902492/\n\nMeet at the Poplar Grove Shelter. Plenty of parki
ng around the shelter\, but you should use the restroom before you get ther
 e. We will have a hiker's potluck after the hike at the shelter (it is rese
rved). Bring snack food to share with the group (chips\, fruit\, cookies\,
crackers\, cupcakes\, granola\, etc.). You can leave most of your food in y
our car until the end of the hike. We will take a break during the hike so
you can bring a small snack on the hike if you like.\n\nClifty Falls State

I-275 and then south\, or down I-71 in Kentucky and north into Indiana. I w
ent the northern route and it was very simple. I-275 (south of I-74) and ta
ke the Lawrenceburg exit #16 US-50 and go west 27 miles\, turn south (left)
on 421 and go about 22 miles. Turn west (right) on 62 and drive 3 miles to
the park. Park entrance fee is $5 or $7 depending on whether you look lik
e you are from Indiana.\n\nCarpool location: In the Argosy parking lot (fro
nt corner) next to the Burger King parking lot at the Lawrenceburg exit #16
. I won't be there (I'll be camping) so Tiffany Everett will be the carpool
leader. Look for her Silver PT Cruiser. Meet at 11:15 am on Saturday. If

SUMMARY:Bat caving extreme and non-extreme hiking\, horseback riding\, kaya
 king\, etc.
DESCRIPTION:Hiking Meetups > Tri-State Hiking Club\n\nCarter caves has a wi
de variety of cave tours.... check out --> http://parks.ky.gov/NR/rdonlyre
 s/88105ED6-75B0-4E24-A4DC-C82A3E325120/0/Summer2008.pdf\n\n From the rave
reviews of Todd\, Bethany\, and all the others who participated in it last
time it seems very worthwhile\, but is limited to the first 12. Currently
there is one signed up (me). However there are a wide variety of other to
urs\, both crawling and walking as you can see at the above file. Prices v
ary per tour.\n\n There is also hiking\, horse back riding\, and boating
among other things. It is possible to make this a day trip but not easy.
The bat cave extreme starts @ 9:30 AM and is a very reasonable $20 for the
all-day event! It is located (according to mapquest) a bit under 3 hou
rs and 175 miles away - though I recall it being a bit quicker. We will s
et up car pools among those interested! Here is the link I used. \nhttp:
