Steps of Cincinnati-Clifton-m oderate late afternoon evening walk-6 miles

When

Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 5:00 PM 20080601T210000Z

Where

Mt. Storm Park
660 Lafeyette Ave
Cincinnati , OH 45220
503-9601

Who should come

Anyone who would like to explore the gaslight district of Clifton as well as experience a trail or two in Burnet Woods.

Why

Burnet Woods has an awesome concrete slide built by the WPA in the 40's that's a must do ride!!!! It gives Kings Island a run for its money in my book. (For the scardy cats, there are steps along the slide as well)

How to find the organizer(s)

"I'll be driving the White Scion ice cream truck and will probably have a beagle and german shepard too. Enter the park and park near the Overlook and Arched Shelter/Bathrooms. It's a big parking lot and a small park."

Details

Clifton is one of Cincy's most diverse neighborhoods. It's a place where Prius owners and Hummer owners live in relative peace and harmony. It's residents come from all social classes and cultures and Cliftonites pride themselves on that fact. They have Catholic, Protestant, Unitarian, Jewish, Hindu, Pagan, and Islamic services within a few blocks of each other and often congregations join together for services and community projects. Built for the wealthy of early Cincinnati, Clifton boasts some beautiful homes, churches and landscaping unknown in other communites. It offers some of the most diverse shopping and dining experiences in Cincinnati and prides itself on its alternative offerings. (Few chain stores do well in this community) The Esquire Theater is the city's premier Indy Film spot where you can see films in any language or on any topic you can imagine. Burnet Woods, originally built to house the Cincinnati Zoo offers wonderful trails, a nature center, live concerts, a fishing pond, and of course the infamous WPA slide that I adored as a child. Mt. Storm offers wonderful views and a gorgeous Gazebo for relaxation.

Please join us for the easy to moderate walk. The terrain is mostly flat to rolling. Burnet Woods offers several steps and trails for a more strenuous walk. This walk will be longer than most lasting approx 6 miles. I just couldn't cut anything out as it was all so wonderful!! However, the terrain is much less challenging than some of the others so I don't think it will be incredibly difficult. I had very little difficulty walking it. ( A little huffing and puffing on the stairs)

This walk will not include the University area as that will be in a future jaunt. However, the parks and gaslight residences are a delight to see all on their own.

We can have dinner after at Deweys Pizza, Habaneros, or another location.
