UPDATE, PLEASE READ!!!!
We are still meeting for the walk at 5pm. However, because Rock Bottom needs us to be there at 7.30, we are going to go up to the top of Carew Tower between 4-5pm. You do not have to do this part as we will go back over to Fountain Square by 5pm to meet up with any who couldn't make it by 4pm. (If you can't make it at 4 on the nose, than just meet us at the top of the tower between 4-445. Carew Tower is across the street from the Fountain. It is the tallest building in Cincy so it is not too hard to find-if you are in front of the tv screen at the square, it is the building across the street on the corner. I believe it is Omni Netherland Hotel at the bottom and a Steakhouse-just ask someone and they can point it out to you)
Please be on time at 5pm!!! My cell is 503-9601 if you have an issue. We will leave at 505 if no one has called my phone to say they are late because of parking, traffic, etc.
PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU ARE ADDING YOURSELF TODAY AND WANT TO HAVE DINNER AT ROCK BOTTOM. I MADE RESERVATIONS AND NEED TO MAKE SURE WE AREN'T WAY BELOW OR ABOVE THE 35 I QUOTED HIM. YOU ONLY NEED TO EMAIL ME IF YOU ARE COMING TO DINNER. IF YOU ARE JUST DOING THE WALK, THERE IS NO NEED TO CONTACT ME. HOWEVER, IF YOU DO NOT EMAIL ME AND WANT TO HAVE DINNER WITH US, I CANNOT GUARANTEE WE CAN ACCOMODATE YOU SO PLEASE TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION.
At dinner at Ault, we were discussing how we could combine fun activities of interests and walking into one event. We thought it would be fun on a weekend evening to try something new and combine an urban hike, carew tower view, and brewery tastings into one event. So, we will meet at Fountain Square at 5pm where we will head over to Carew Tower for a fabulous city view. The fee for Carew is $2. We will take the first elevator and those who dare can take the second rickety 2 by 2 elevator the rest of the way. The others of us will get our exercise by taking the stairs up the remaining few floors. (I believe 6) After the view, we will head towards the river over the Purple People Bridge to Newport where we can explore Newport's Historic District and pop into the Hoberhaus for a good old fashion taste of German beer. Then, back over to the Cincy side where we will explore historic Cincinnati and wind up the walk at Rock Bottom Brewery at Fountain Square where we can enjoy their brew tasting offerings and dinner. Some of us may also head over to Havana Martini Club after dinner for dancing depending on how late it is and how we feel.
Both venues offer non-alcoholics libations for those who prefer. Dogs are welcome on the hike, but obviously they aren't allowed in Carew or the restaurants so please take that into consideration. I wll be leaving my kids (dogs) at home. Should this walk be a success, we also have plans to hike to the Winery in Hyde Park and welcome any other suggestions.
There is parking under Fountain Square for a few dollars. It's very reasonable. Or there is a lot one block over in the building across from Arbys if the Fountain Square lot is full.
This should be an easy walk. No hills or inclines, but about 4-5 miles.

"I enjoyed the varieties of interest. Going to the top of Carew Tower was fantastic! The view of all areas of Cincinnati was awesome. I recommend this to everyone. The walk across the bridge to Newport and walking through interesting neigborhoods was so much fun. The weather was perfect. We enjoyed a stop at the Hofbrahaus German Restuarant and sat out in the garden for a half hour for refreshments. Then off to see some very old and beautiful homes in a local neighborhood. We then headed back across the bridge to Cincinnati and stopped in for dinner at The Rock Bottom Restuarant. Very good food and homemade beer. Every part of the walk was fun and interesting. However, the greatest part of our walk was the friendliness and commaradie of the people in our group. " -
