This is going to be a good workout and we will take it SLOW as usual because that's my pace. There's no shade for the first part of the trail until we reach the First Water. We can stop here to enjoy the creek then head up to Orchard Camp and enjoy the shade for a bit then head to the right of the trail to Manzanita Ridge. We will take our lunch break at the famous bench, take a little nap or just simply enjoy what this place has to offer. NO RUSH!

Bring plenty of water, snack, lunch, hat, sunscreen and wear sturdy shoes/boots for the hike and a good fun attitude.

From the 210 Freeway, exit Baldwin Ave. and go north. When you come to a traffic light where you have to go either right or left, go left to the next light and that is Baldwin Ave. Take a right and continue up Baldwin Ave. through the downtown area of Sierra Madre. Approximately ¾’s of a mile from the downtown plaza, take a right on Mira Monte. Go down about 1/3 mile and you will come to a small park on your left. Park anywhere in this area along Mira Monte.

Hi John - Thanks for making it all the way to the fire road. I hope you're able to walk the day after the hike. It definitely was a good workout. Come and join us again next time.

Hi Kevin - I'm proud of you for making all the way to our original destination. Thanks by the way for passing the word to hikers on the trail that you made it back okay. Don't hesitate to join my hikes again even if you fall behind.

I would like to attend but have a few questions. I do not know the area and would like someone's contact info if I get lost on the way there. Also, is it frowned upon to go ahead of the group on the way back? If so, I will join on another hike. My # is [masked]

I'll be driving from the Simi Valley, along the 118, to the 210, exiting Baldwin. Would anyone like to carpool along the way? -Kevin

    •  What a great group, I love the positive attitude that you brought in. We made it alright to the bench and decided to go up to Mt. Wilson for the first time. Okay so we were slow and I certainly felt the incline but the day was so beautiful. This is definitely a must to repeat, 15 miles round trip 4500 ft gain. Whew!!!!
    •  I thought I was ready for this... I was wrong. I need more conditioning! I did make it to the primary objective, but most of the over achievers went on to the top. I was the slow poke who separated from the group, but I did make it to the Manzanita Ridge and a little further, before realizing I didn't want to get caught up there after dark. 10.5 miles and 8 hours of hiking/climbing was enough for me. Thanks for the great work out.
    •  I wanted to use this hike as a benchmark for how well I can hold up and learned a lot. Meeting new/fun people was a huge bonus too.
