If you had the chance to hike with me last weekend to Cucamonga Peak it will be the same pace, SLOW with more frequent breaks. This hike is design for those who's looking for a good challenge at a slower pace. We will take our early lunch/brunch at the top of Hastings Peak then return back the same way. Bring water, snack, lunch, hat, sunscreen and wear sturdy shoes/boots.

We will be starting out in the parking area at Bailey Park. Follow a wood-chip path NW to a turnstile. You step out onto a paved road passing a debris dam. The pavement ends at a junction. The Live Oak nature trail is to your right, across a small bridge. Continue straight N, soon crossing a small stream. Just beyond the trail splits.

Begin to switchback, climbing steadily. At about 1 mile you reach a bench where you can rest and look over the San Gabriel Valley which offers a fantastic view on a clear day. Continuing ahead, you snake around the canyon in a back and forth pattern. There is little to no shade most of the way.

From the 210 Foothill Freeway Arcadia, exit Baldwin Avenue and go north (Straight). Baldwin Avenue ends at Carter st. Turn Left. Take Carter about 1/3mi. The Parking lot will be on your right. If you reach a dead-end, you just passed it.

    •  Thanks for those of you that made it to the hike today. It sad to see the single lane gone as you reach Jones Peak & Hastings Peak it was graded during the station fire. Now the trail looks like a fire road.
    •  ... if you are a novice hiker, avoid this trail... this is not for you or for beginners. on this trail, slow means uphill up to 50-55 degrees climb up. from the trail-head, that begins from bailey canyon parking lot, you can already tell and feel that you are ascending slowly. this hike trail is designed for seasoned hikers. so if you are a novice walker, i advice not to take this trail, and especially if you have health or heart issues... don't hike on this trail if it rained heavily the night before. for advance hikers, if you have all day to spend, this trail is great for hiking, good work-out, and socializing ...
