This is the 3rd annual Fourth of July night hike for our Meet Up club. We will meet at top of Lake Ave. at Cobb Estate at 6:15 PM - Altadena, CA

Bring food, snacks, and fire water
Distance: 5 miles round trip
Level 5 / 10 Medium...not for beginners
Elevation: 3200 ft
No Dogs
No Maybes

The main objective is to watch the fireworks at the Rose Bowl....or is it to Party??

Hike up the Sam Merrill Trail to Echo Mtn. When we reach the top (1.25 hours) we will sit around and watch the Rose Bowl fireworks which start at about 9 PM. If you have collapsible lawn chairs that can fit on your back pack, bring them b/c as you may know, there are no seats up there.

We will be a goodly distance from the Bowl, and the fireworks look a little tiny from atop Echo, but it is fun anyway. Especially when we are enjoying the refreshments we take with us.

For those who have never hiked to Echo Mtn. this trail is almost constantly uphill with little respite. You cannot get lost, so if anyone has trouble going up, you can always turn back. It is a medium level hike, not a beginner hike.

If you bring flashlights, use them sparingly if at all. There should be plenty of moonlight coming back down. However, last year, many people used the lights when coming back down the trail. It was beautiful to look back at the string. Too bad our cameras couldn't handle night photos.

Will head back down at about 9:45 - 10 PM , and be back to cars by 10:30 or 11 PM

    Remembr that it's still fairly warm on the mountain face in the 6 o'clock hour, so have plenty of fluids. Can someone pack ice for the drinks? AND LEE !!! This IS a beginner hike, anyone can do this ... because I can still do this. I've been doing this nearly every wednesday evening for 4 years and still manage to get newbies to the top in under 90 minutes.
