So you like to climb mountains? And you like sweeping views of the valleys down below? And you don't mind sweating a bit to get there? And you want to do all this in/around Mt Hood? On a Sunday? With a nice group of people? Well, then this might be the hike for you if you are an experienced hiker. We'll be doing the Top Spur trail which will take us up, on the north west side of Mt Hood, to the shelter at McNeil point. On this trail we will have wildflowers, sweeping vistas around Bald Mountain, a magnificent reflection of McNeil point from a pond nearby and of course, the rock shelter. depending on how we're doing, on the way there or on the way back, we can detour a bit to check Cairn Basin

This trail is not easy. We will hike about 9.6 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 2220' without any detours. Also, please note that we might find snow in the upper portion of the trail and the pass to McNeil might be icy, so bring your yaktrax and poles.

Drivers note that a northwest Forest Permit is required
