About The Vancouver Hiking Meetup Group

Vancouver Hiking organizers are volunteers who enjoy bringing people together.

As a member of the Vancouver Hiking meetup you are responsible for your own safety. We reserve the right to decline to hike with you if you show up unprepared. Prepared means more than physical ability, it means having adequate equipment for the specific event posted.

When you RSVP for an event please take it seriously and be responsible. Organizers put in considerable time and effort to organize events. Events that require reservations are impacted when you do not show up, often at the expense of the reputation of the event organizer. Organizers take note of attendance, and repeated no-shows may result in the member being removed from this group.

Organizers provide information about the hike, but know that if you sign up you take responsibility for additional research yourself, including maps if you so desire. Sometimes hikes are new or somewhat unfamiliar to organizers. Do not come expecting organizers to be hiking guides or experts, but rather facilitators of group hiking experiences. Everyone has to take responsibility and contribute to the ongoing learning of this group. The internet is useful tool for your own research.

Carpooling arrangements and the use of the wait list feature are at the discretion of the individual organizers. Different organizers have different methods and preferences. Please read the comments in the posting for directions and instructions.

It is up to the organizer of an event if guests, children or dogs are able to attend. Organizers will post these details; please respect the organizer's direction on this. Please contact the event organizer directly with any questions pertaining to a specific event.

While we welcome comments and suggestions on the "rate this event" they should be constructive and useful for future events. Please if you have a major concern about a hike please contact the organizer of the event directly.

As a group it was decided that we would not use this medium for advertising. Efforts continue to be made to keep this site recreational and non-profit.

There are annual fees that are paid by the Organizer to run and maintain this site. Therefore, all members are expected to contribute $ periodically to help cover the fees. Even with this request, often not enough money is contributed to help cover the annual fees and the Organizer ends up having to cover the difference. We kindly ask members to give contributions to the Organizer or assistant organizers to help alleviate this cost. Any event fees or excess is only used towards paying the annual fee and for group events.
