Meet at Carderock Recreation Area parking lot at 11AM. Please follow the directions below so you won't get lost.

From Capital Beltway (I-495), take exit 41 Clara Barton Parkway. Once on the Parkway, take the first exit on the right which is for both Carderock and the Naval Surface Warfare Center (Carderock Division). Turn left at the STOP sign at the top of the ramp to cross the parkway. (You'll see some 495 signs but ignore them. ) After passing under the canal, you'll come to a T STOP. Turn right and proceed to the last parking lot.

It's been a while, and I miss my Billy! The trail itself and the canal is beautiful this time of the year. The trail is challenging at some areas but mostly enjoyable. Wear good hiking shoes for rock scrambling. The hike passes amazing views of the Potomac with a rewarding view of the falls in the end.

From the parklot, we'll get on section C, B, and finally A. Once finish A, you can choose to go to the Falls, or take the canal or same way back to parking lot.

SIDE NOTE for dog owners - sorry they’re not allowed on Section A. :(

The Billy Goat trail is on an island called 'Bear Island'.
