*UPDATE 3/17: Last call for Grand Canyon trip. 3 spots left for CAMPING. RSVP will be closed on Friday 3/21. Don't miss out this great opportunity to explore one of nation's greatest treasure.*

Grand Canyon National Park
A powerful and inspiring landscape, the Grand Canyon overwhelms our senses through its immense size. Unique combinations of geologic color and erosional forms decorate a canyon that is 277 river miles (446km) long, up to 18 miles (29km) wide, and a mile (1.6km) deep.
When: 5/13-19, 2008
Backpacking is FULL! RSVP is current open for CAMPING only. Once we get 6 campers, I'll start to make arrangements. Since Grand Canyon is one of the most popular destinations, it's critical that you RSVP as soon as you can. There are so many beautiful trails between North and South Rim. Just being there will take your breath away.
Itineary-:
5/13: Fly to Vegas. Pick up rental car. Enjoy the evening in Sin City.
5/14: Drive to Zion National Park. North Rim won't be open until 5/15 so we decide to spend a night at Zion. Trust me its like nothing you have ever seen. I have picture to prove it (see below). :) Its absolutely beautiful! Check into campsite. Light afternoon hike. Camping fire at night and group entertainment. :)
5/15-18: Drive to North Rim. Backpacking and Camping!!!! Backpackers will cross the rims by foot across the Canyon by way of the North and South Kaibab Trails. Overnight below the rim at three campsites. The South Kaibab Trail crosses the Colorado River on a narrow foot bridge 70 feet/ 21 m above the water. (see picture below) It is a 21 mile/ 34 km hike to go "Rim To Rim," with a vertical descent - followed by a climb - of 1 mile/ 1.6 km.
For campers, there are many beautiful trails for day hikes that'll make the trip worth while. I've reserved one of the campsite at North Rim that has the best view of canyon for you to stay for one night. Then drive to South Rim and meet up with backpackers. From South Rim campers can do day hikes to the CO River but have to return to campsite at night. Other activities include visiting nearby Indian Reservation, driving the scenic 25 mile Desert View drive, watching spectacular sunset & sunrise, and/or taking a helicopter canyon tour.
5/19: Afternoon drive to Vegas. Fly back to DC.
Cost: $250 due immediately
Include in the price - car rental, one night in Vegas, 5 nights camping / backpacking, national park entrance fee. Flight to Vegas is not included (about $300).
