*** EXTREME HARDCORE OVER 26 miles AND OVER 6000 ft of ELEVATION GAIN***

Note: THIS EVENT IS NOT FULL BUT EVERYONE NEEDS TO SIGN IN
AS WAITLISTED AND ANSWER THE QUESTION THAT POPS UP BEFORE I MOVE THEM TO YES.

This is the 5th 4 peaks event in a series. Details from the first 4:

1st 4 peaks
2nd 4 peaks
3rd 4 peaks
4th 4 peaks

If you have done the first 4 you will know what to expect.

These are **EXTREMELY STRENOUS HIKES** so you may sign up for the
wait list and answer the questions about the hardest hike you have done and I will then move you into the yes list.

Although this is **EXTREMELY HARD** there is some support.
There will be coolers with Gatorade, water, other drinks and food at a few places. The
suggested donation is $10.

The 4 peaks are:
Peak 1: Unnamed peak: 1550 ft ?? about 750 ft elevation gain
Peak 2: High Knob: 2388 ft: about 1300 ft elevation gain
Peak 3: Carson Mtn/Fort Windham Rocks 2550 ft ?? about 2500 ft elevation gain
Peak 4: Compton Peak: 2909 ft: about 400 ft elevation gain

Gain after Peak 4: about 1500
total approximate gain: 6450 ft.

Note: Peak 1 is unnamed and not clearly marked on the maps, so we will use GPS to scout and find the
highest point in the general vicinity and name it. My vote is to name it for Tom Witte who likes finding the
high points :)

Note: Peak 2 is not on the trail. It is marked on the map and the GPS coordinates are: 38° 53' N; 78° 7' W
38.886789, -78.111904. There is going to be some scrambling.

We are going to use PATC maps 8 & 9 for this.

We will meet at Centreville park and ride at 5:30 am to the start of the trail, drop off the passengers and
the drivers will drive to the end of the trail and shuttle back.

Directions to start of trail: Take I-66 W to exit 18, take 55 West
Go about 3 miles, parking will be on the left. Take right turn for additional parking.
if you hit 638 or enter Linden you have gone too far.

Directions to end of trail: Continue on 55 for about 8 miles and turn left on 522
go about 3 miles and turn right on 604 (sign for Va 4-H)
go about 2 miles and stay right to be on 604
go about 1 mi and turn left to be on 601
parking on right in a quarter mile.

3. Go another 4 miles, use gps to find High knob.
4. Continue South on AT

Continued from below: 7) I will have a portable grill and propane tank. Feel free to bring whatever you want to grill. 8) Because of the dangers of cold and hunting season, at times we will all be going as a group, particularly when we are scrambling off trail. Please slow down at these spots. I will point the areas of group travel on the map when we meet. 9) thanks and have fun :)

    4) 4) It is prime hunting season. See this link forwarded by Jayne: http://www.washingtonpost.c.... Please wear orange or bright colors. Please avoid white or dark clothing. It would be good to carry whistles. 5) It is going to be very cold. Please dress in layers and carry gloves, hat and down jackets. 6) We will spend an hour for lunch. Please bring a chair you can drop off at the lunch spot and maybe a blanket.

Please read this before coming: 1) I am staying friday and saturday night near Shenandoah and so will meet you at the trailhead not Centreville P&R. 2) There is a shuttle involved since start and end points are separate. Please call me at [masked] to figure things out or shoot me an email. 3) It will be dark before we finish the hike. Please bring headlamps with a spare battery. continued above ....

    •  could have done a better job organizing. This turned into a 2 peaks instead of 4 peaks because of logistics. The 2 peaks were challenging and had great views. Will redo this one in a month or so.
