Correction (thanks to Janet!), the 4 miles round trip is only for Section A. The distance should be 10-12 miles including B and C. However you don't have to do all three sections.

From the parking lot, we'll hike section C first, then B and A. Section B and C are fairly easy, but Section A has some difficult spots. If at any point you can't continue, you can take the Canal, which is nice and flat, back to parking lot. We will be hiking at a moderate speed and taking short drink/snack breaks. You can hike faster or slower on your own pace, but I won't encourage to be separated from the group completely.

Meet at Carderock Recreation Area parking lot at 11AM. Please follow the directions below so you won't get lost.

From Capital Beltway (I-495), take exit 41 Clara Barton Parkway. Once on the Parkway, take the first exit on the right which is for both Carderock and the Naval Surface Warfare Center (Carderock Division). Turn left at the STOP sign at the top of the ramp to cross the parkway. (You'll see some 495 signs but ignore them. ) After passing under the canal, you'll come to a T STOP. Turn right and proceed to the last parking lot.

It's been a while, and I miss my Billy! The trail itself and the canal is beautiful this time of the year. The trail is challenging at some areas but mostly enjoyable. Wear good hiking shoes for rock scrambling. The hike passes amazing views of the Potomac with a rewarding view of the falls in the end.
