With Thanksgiving on the horizon, how apropos to hike the Indian Grave Ridge Trail near Luray, Virginia which has great views both from the valley as it winds alongside the Shenandoah River and the ridge line. http://www.hikingupwa...

8.6 miles, 1,500 ft elevation gain, 4 hours or less

This hike is not as difficult or as fast as many I post but I do ask that you have prior experience and are willing to hike a bit faster than HikingUpward predicts. If you’re unsure, please contact me b4 signing up. Please "No Maybes" as I've set a limit.

Be early. We will leave Vienna NORTH, NORTH, NORTH Parking Lot when the 8:33 am metro hikers arrive I-66 Exit 62. If you are coming from DC, Parking Lot is on your right of I-66. DO NOT USE LINK @ TOP. I could not get the location I wanted. It can be VERY confusing meeting here. Remember NORTH, NORTH, NORTH, NORTH parking lot. I have a green corolla & will have my Meetup Monkey on the the window.

Hike begins @ 10:30 am @ the third trail head option on Hiking Upward . Call me when you get on the road if you are going directly to the trail head.

As usual, I've not done this hike b4, so bring a copy of the Topo Trail map and Directions to Trail
Click on HikingUpward link above.

For Trail Map click on Printable Topo Hike Map pdf.

For Driving Directions to trail head type your starting location to the 3rd third parking area 0.8 miles further along VA717, left on 236 0.2 miles, and on the right just before the gate.

COST. No charge to hike our National Forest trails but please offer your driver $5-$10 AND bring money for lunch.

Love, love, love your humurous responses to my non question

Who attended?

  • 13 attendees
    •  Perfect day, good hike, fun, fun, fun!
    •  Always fun to check out a new hike. Loved the climb and the ridge. The road was not my favorite although that Shenandoah River on the right was tempting indeed with a Nov day reaching 77 degrees. Soul Mountain Restaurant on Main Street in Front Royal tops any restaurant in the area we've tried. I will definitely return. And the hikers, once again, were the greatest. It is so fun to spend the day with people who want to be outdoors and enjoy having fun. yeah us!!!!
    •  Wonderful day of hiking!
    •  Could not ask for better weather - 70 degrees, beautiful landscape and awesome hikers. Thanks Jane for a great hike. You are an awesome leader.
    •  Hike was wonderful- couldn't have asked for a better weather. And Jayne is amazing!!!! Superb organizer.
    •  thanks for neil for the drive. thanks to jayne for the hike. thanks to the people for the friendship. no thanks to the biting insects - you know who you are!
    •  Great hike, friendly people, followed by some good food. Thanks for organizing Jayne.
    •  Another great hike lead by Jayne. The weather was great, the hike was great and great people. Although there was no snow this time. That was a disappointment. :)
