Update: I need a volunteer to coordinate carpool from Vienna metro at 2pm. Please contact me immediately if you're interested. Please also post under Comments if you need a ride or can drive.

--------------------------------------------
Summary: This is one of the most scenic circuits in the Park. The trails are well maintained and marked and the grades are not difficult. The panoramic views from Stony Man and Little Stoney Man are outstanding. From 1845 to the turn of the century, a copper mine operated near the summit of Stony Man. Although Stony Man (4011ft.) is the second highest peak in the Park, the climb from the parking lot is only about 330ft. The Passamaquoddy Trail was laid out by George Freeman Pollock, founder of Skyland, in 1932. Dogs are not permitted on the Stony Man Nature Trail except with long-distance AT hikers.
--------------------------------------------

Trailhead: Off Skyline Drive - Little Stony Man Parking Area, just south of MP 39 on west side of Skyline Drive. Parking area only accomodates a few cars so carpool is strongly encouraged. From there we'll get to summit then take Little Stony Man trail to the cliff to watch sunset. Please bring head lamp or flashlights.

If you're running late, you can park in Stony Man parking area by Skyland Resort at MP 43. The distance is shorter from there to the summit.

If you're interested in carpooling from Vienna Metro, please state in your RSVP. Meet at NORTH parking lot at 2pm. There's a $15 entrance fee to get into SNP, so if you have a park pass that'll be very helpful. Carpoolers should chip in for gas and entrance fee.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Highlights:
2nd highest Peak in SNP, easy access, spectacular views
Near: Luray, VA
Distance: 3.5 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 800 ft
Hike Time: 2 hours
Difficulty: Easy
Trail Condition: Well maintained trail

Suggestion: If you are not carpooling, perhaps we can meet at the parking area on the left off U.S. 211 just past the Skyline Drive entrance and carpool from there to reduce the number of cars at the trailhead and save on the entrance fee. Meeting at 3:30 will give us enough time to drive to the trailhead from that point. I would also be interested in carpooling from Gainesville or Warrenton, which are along the way to the park (Vienna is way out of the way for me).

Starting to look dreary here in Arlington...I'm gonna back out so as not to be an annoying, inexperienced hiker on an easy hike (but in the dark and rain...I might become an annoyance)...if it gets rescheduled, I'm game, though!

Hi everyone, be advised that rain is forecast for this hike, but unless I hear otherwise from Lin it's still on. We love the outdoors, rain or shine! Given that it will likely be raining in Vienna I'll be inside the station just inside the North entrance, and will be wearing a red t-shirt from the Battle of the Boulevard race and will have hiking poles. My car is a blue Ford Mustang that will be located near the exit to the lot. Again, my cell number is [masked].

I am still looking for a ride from the Vienna metro...also, I'm not the most profound hiker (I've done one hike with meetup before - it was fun)...but signed up for this because it says it's easy...just confirming the "easy-ness" and what I need to bring...I see flashlight...I'm guessing water and snacks and cash (for gas/carpool and entry fee)...

Hi all, as it turns out my friend with a car can come, so I don't need a ride anymore and we can take 3 people. We'll meet y'all at the Vienna metro.

I just got a note from Scott. I'll take Scott Hays + 1 guest. So I still have room for one more.

Gopal, thanks for offering your car and saving me - I gave the list an overly casual scan last night and didn't notice Melissa's note. Totally my fault. How many can you take?

Okay y'all - I have the following who want a ride: prafulkumar, Susan, Steve Sherman and Jessica R. My car can hold all of you provided you don't mind squeezing together in the back seat and holding your packs in your laps. It's been done before, just be aware that anyone extra we'll have to put in the trunk! Unless - a new brave soul with a car steps forth to promise relief and room to stretch for everyone! Be bold! :-)

Hi everyone! I will be at the Vienna Metro North Lot to help coordinate leaving at 2pm. If you're running a little (and I do mean a little) behind call me at [masked]. I can only take three people in my car, so if you can drive please meet us at Vienna Metro and leave with a conversation partner or three!
