Update: I need a volunteer to coordinate carpool from Vienna metro at 2pm. Please contact me immediately if you're interested. Please also post under Comments if you need a ride or can drive.
--------------------------------------------
Summary: This is one of the most scenic circuits in the Park. The trails are well maintained and marked and the grades are not difficult. The panoramic views from Stony Man and Little Stoney Man are outstanding. From 1845 to the turn of the century, a copper mine operated near the summit of Stony Man. Although Stony Man (4011ft.) is the second highest peak in the Park, the climb from the parking lot is only about 330ft. The Passamaquoddy Trail was laid out by George Freeman Pollock, founder of Skyland, in 1932. Dogs are not permitted on the Stony Man Nature Trail except with long-distance AT hikers.
--------------------------------------------
Trailhead: Off Skyline Drive - Little Stony Man Parking Area, just south of MP 39 on west side of Skyline Drive. Parking area only accomodates a few cars so carpool is strongly encouraged. From there we'll get to summit then take Little Stony Man trail to the cliff to watch sunset. Please bring head lamp or flashlights.
If you're running late, you can park in Stony Man parking area by Skyland Resort at MP 43. The distance is shorter from there to the summit.
If you're interested in carpooling from Vienna Metro, please state in your RSVP. Meet at NORTH parking lot at 2pm. There's a $15 entrance fee to get into SNP, so if you have a park pass that'll be very helpful. Carpoolers should chip in for gas and entrance fee.
