We are hiking RAIN or SHINE! Weather forecast a little bit of rain in the morning but like always it might not rain. So be prepared, bring raingear and waterproof boots.

*******************************

I'll be at the trailhead at 9:30am. This is a popular hike so we want to beat the crowd.

Please post carpool info in your RSVP or under Comments.

*******************************

Directions to Trailhead: Drive to Big Meadows, just south of MP 51 on Skyline Drive. Turn in and follow signs to Amphitheater parking area. Trail begins behind amphitheater. If you pass the Big Meadows campground you've gone too far. I did this hike last year in the Fall, and it was beautiful! We'll go through 3 waterfalls in the beginning of the trail, and end with a large waterfall where we'll take lunch break. The colors will be amazing!

Near: Luray, VA
Distance: 5.5 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 1400 ft
Hike Time: 3 hours
Difficulty: Moderate some parts might be a little strenuous

I just moved up off of the waiting list, and I really want to come, but I don't have a car. Can I get a ride with someone? I'm coming from DC (NW, near Shaw/Howard University), so I would probably need a ride from somewhere in NW. Metro doesn't start running until 7 AM & the first train at Shaw (southbound) is at 7:20 AM.

Sirish, I might have a spot for you. Naomi and Rachel B are definitely carpooling with me, but someone by the name of Maggie asked me if she could get a ride. However, I do not see her name in the hiking list. I am assuming Maggie is a spam. We will be meeting at the Clarendon station between 7:30am and 7:40am.

I would also really love a ride if there are any spots left with anybody. I can meet at any metro and I can bring snacks!

Naomi, I have a spot for you and Rachel B. My guess is that it would take us about 90minutes to 2 hrs of driving time from the Clarendon station to the trailhead. Am I correct about the road time? If so, we would need to leave around 7:30am.

    •  The hike was great, although we did not meet with the group because there was some confusion about where the initial meeting location was. Fortunately I had hubby with me so we had a nice hike on our own. Started raining right when we got back to the car :-).
    •  Once we got there (our car was late) it was great! It did rain, but that didn't dampen our spirits. Thanks for organizing Lin--and sorry we only got to run into you on the trail, vs. hiking with you!

beautiful trail, not too crowded. too bad we missed the rest of the group, but good to run into some on the hike. hope the rest didn't get rained on too badly as it started to pour just when we about to finish the hike.
