Time for a short, holiday (MLK) dayhike in Oregon Ridge. I've not been there before, so this is an exporation hike as well. Apologies for the short lead time in setting this up; wanted to squeeze one more hike in, before I find out next week if I'm.....otherwise occupied for the forseeable future.
From "MidAtlanticHikes.com": "This is a pretty easy romp in the woods. It's close to Baltimore and a great place to take the kids and Fido. It's also a good place to go when you have cabin fever real bad or are trying to rehab an injury and a stationary bike or treadmill just doesn't seem to cut it for you. The starting point also offers a pretty nice Nature Center with live snakes and amphibians, an indoor beehive and numerous taxidermy displays. If you are in moderate condition it should take you no more than 2 hours to complete the longest possible circuit of 4.2 miles which is described here."
Lunch, afterwards, in the area is optional.
Fido is welcome on this hike. I will be there with the typical grey Mazda and the typical overexcited brown dog.
We'll meet at the nature center; directions are available here: http://www.google.com...

Dom, thanks for putting together another fun hike. I enjoyed meeting new people like Amy, Beverly, Becky, etc. And of course enjoyed seeing those I've already met.

Great group of people. The weather was perfect. Since this was my second hike, I had to work a little harder than some, but loved it.

Nice distance and gradation of terrain. Decent challenge for me.

Had a great time! I was glad to see a mixture of meetups.

It's really muddy. Recommend waterproof shoes with the stream crossings as the water is a little deeper and faster than usual due to all the recent rain/snow melt. Also bring a change of socks/shoes for afterwards.

Judy; thanks for the update. I'm starting out with a chocolate lab; can only imagine what she'll look like when done...

We have to work tomorrow so we did the hike yesterday and really enjoyed it, as did our golden lab, who was more of a chocolate lab when we finished. The trail was very muddy and your feet will probably get wet as there are 4 stream crossings. We ran into quite a few people and their dogs out enjoying the warmer weather. The trail instructions were good as we didn't stray a single time. It is nice having a good place to hike so close to home. Enjoy tomorrow.
